IL-17A is the founding member of the family of IL-17 ligands which include IL-17B, IL-17C, IL-17D, IL-17E and IL-17F. It is a disulfide-linked homodimeric glycoprotein consisting of 155 amino acids which binds to and activates a heterodimeric transmembrane receptor complex consisting of IL-17RC and IL-17RA subunits. IL-17A is mainly produced by Th17 cells but it is also known to be secreted by a variety of innate immune cells including macrophages, dendritic cells, NK cells and NKT cells. IL-17A has been linked to the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).Studies show that IL-17A plays a complex role in the regulation of cytokines and chemokines in intestinal epithelial cells in IBD...
