PLA2G7 Gene Summary [Human]

The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted enzyme that catalyzes the degradation of platelet-activating factor to biologically inactive products. Defects in this gene are a cause of platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase deficiency. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in human PLA2G7 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.

  • 1-alkyl-2-acetylglycerophosphocholine esterase
  • alpha/beta hydrolases
  • Platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase, isoform II
  • calcium-independent phospholipase A2
  • enzyme
  • protein binding
  • ester bond hydrolase
