EIF3G Gene Summary [Human]

This gene encodes a core subunit of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF3) complex, which is required for initiation of protein translation. An N-terminal caspase cleavage product of the encoded protein may stimulate degradation of DNA. A mutation in this gene is associated with narcolepsy. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in human EIF3G often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
