RPS6KC1 Gene Summary [Human]

Sphingosine kinase catalyzes the formation of sphingosine 1 phosphate, a lipid cellular messenger. The protein encoded by this gene can bind to sphingosine kinase and to phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate, suggesting a role in sphingosine 1 phophate signaling. The encoded protein can also bind to peroxiredoxin-3 and may help transport it to mitochondria. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2017]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in human RPS6KC1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
