Ndufaf3 Gene Summary [Rat]

This gene encodes a protein that is required for assembly of mitochondrial NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase complex I, a multiprotein enzyme complex that is part of the oxidative phosphorylation pathway. In humans, mutations in this gene are associated with fatal neonatal mitochondrial disease and lactic acidosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in rat Ndufaf3 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
