Cdh12 Gene Summary [Mouse]

This gene encodes a member of the cadherin family of calcium-dependent glycoproteins that mediate cell adhesion and regulate many morphogenetic events during development. The encoded preproprotein is further processed to generate a mature protein. This gene is expressed in both the excitatory and inhibitory neurons in various areas of the adult central nervous system including the cerebellum, neocortex, hippocampus and in different subcortical nuclei. Multiple distinct genes of the cadherin family, including this gene, are found on chromosome 15. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Cdh12 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
  • Bacterial cadherin-like domain
  • Cadherin, Y-type LIR-motif
  • Cadherin repeat-like domain
