CDK5RAP1 Gene Summary [Human]

This gene encodes a regulator of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 activity. This protein has also been reported to modify RNA by adding a methylthio-group and may thus have a dual function as an RNA methylthiotransferase and as an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 activity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in human CDK5RAP1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
