Vax1 Gene Summary [Mouse]

This gene encodes a member of the EMX homeobox protein family. The encoded protein functions as a transcription factor which is important in the development of anterior ventral forebrain and visual system. Disruption of this gene causes impairment in the developing forebrain, where the encoded protein is necessary for axon guidance and major tract formation. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Vax1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
