Kl Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables fibroblast growth factor binding activity and fibroblast growth factor receptor binding activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including determination of adult lifespan; energy reserve metabolic process; and positive regulation of MAPKKK cascade by fibroblast growth factor receptor signaling pathway. Predicted to be located in extracellular region and membrane. Is expressed in brain; cerebral cortex; femur; hippocampus; and metanephros. Used to study hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis and pulmonary emphysema. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in coronary artery disease; intracranial embolism; and spondylosis. Orthologous to human KL (klotho). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Kl often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
