Dcdc2 Gene Summary [Rat]

This gene encodes a member of the doublecortin family. The protein encoded by this gene contains two doublecortin domains. The doublecortin domain has been demonstrated to bind tubulin and enhance microtubule polymerization. Knockdown of this gene expression results in neuronal migration disorders similar to those seen in the brains of dyslexics. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in rat Dcdc2 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
