Tac2 Gene Summary [Mouse]

This gene encodes a member of the tachykinin family of signaling peptides that is widely expressed in the central nervous system and plays a role in diverse processes such as water homeostasis, pulmonary inflammation, cognition, fear memory consolidation and preeclampsia. The encoded protein is enzymatically processed to generate the mature neuropeptide. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Tac2 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
