Ybx1 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables chromatin binding activity; mRNA binding activity; and single-stranded DNA binding activity. Involved in epidermis development and negative regulation of cellular senescence. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to interleukin-7; negative regulation of striated muscle cell differentiation; and negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in P-body and nucleus. Part of histone pre-mRNA 3'end processing complex. Is active in synapse. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; branchial arch; facial prominence; gonad; and retina. Orthologous to human YBX1 (Y-box binding protein 1). Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Ybx1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
