Hdac3 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables chromatin DNA binding activity; histone deacetylase activity; and histone decrotonylase activity. Involved in several processes, including cornified envelope assembly; establishment of skin barrier; and regulation of macromolecule metabolic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of cardiac muscle cell differentiation; regulation of DNA-templated transcription; and regulation of mitotic cell cycle. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is active in chromatin. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; early conceptus; embryo mesenchyme; and sensory organ. Used to study endometriosis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in lung non-small cell carcinoma. Orthologous to human HDAC3 (histone deacetylase 3). Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Hdac3 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
