Kif3a Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables intraciliary transport particle B binding activity and microtubule binding activity. Involved in several processes, including alpha-tubulin acetylation; anterograde dendritic transport of neurotransmitter receptor complex; and microtubule cytoskeleton organization. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including chordate embryonic development; plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization; and regionalization. Located in centriole; motile cilium; and photoreceptor connecting cilium. Part of kinesin II complex. Is active in glutamatergic synapse and postsynapse. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; gonad; node; peripheral nervous system; and spleen. Used to study dysostosis; polycystic kidney disease; and polycystic kidney disease 1. Orthologous to human KIF3A (kinesin family member 3A). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Kif3a often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
