Upp1 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables deoxyuridine phosphorylase activity; thymidine phosphorylase activity; and uridine phosphorylase activity. Involved in pyrimidine nucleoside monophosphate metabolic process and uridine catabolic process. Acts upstream of or within pyrimidine nucleotide metabolic process and uridine metabolic process. Is active in cytosol. Is expressed in early embryo; extraembryonic ectoderm; nervous system; and sensory organ. Used to study mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome 1. Orthologous to human UPP1 (uridine phosphorylase 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Upp1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
