Emp2 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables integrin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including early endosome to late endosome transport; embryonic process involved in female pregnancy; and protein localization to cell surface. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of integrin-mediated signaling pathway. Located in Golgi apparatus; apical plasma membrane; and cell surface. Colocalizes with cytoplasmic vesicle; membrane raft; and plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; endometrium; medulla oblongata lateral wall; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Used to study placental insufficiency. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in nephrotic syndrome type 10. Orthologous to human EMP2 (epithelial membrane protein 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Emp2 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
