Zdhhc2 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables protein-cysteine S-myristoyltransferase activity; protein-cysteine S-palmitoyltransferase activity; and protein-cysteine S-stearoyltransferase activity. Involved in peptidyl-L-cysteine S-palmitoylation; protein localization to membrane; and synapse assembly. Acts upstream of or within postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptor cycle and protein palmitoylation. Located in plasma membrane; postsynaptic recycling endosome; and recycling endosome membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including early conceptus; genitourinary system; nervous system; pancreas tip epithelium; and retina. Orthologous to human ZDHHC2 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Zdhhc2 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
