Vps28 Gene Summary [Mouse]

This gene encodes a protein which is thought to be a subunit of the ESCRT-I complex (endosomal complexes required for transport), which functions in the transport and sorting of proteins into subcellular vesicles. This complex can also be hijacked to facilitate the budding of enveloped viruses from the cell membrane. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Vps28 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
