Shc1 Gene Summary [Rat]

Enables enzyme binding activity; epidermal growth factor receptor binding activity; and phosphotyrosine residue binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to hydrogen peroxide; cellular response to phorbol 13-acetate 12-myristate; and insulin receptor signaling pathway. Located in endosome membrane. Part of Shc-EGFR complex. Used to study glomerulosclerosis. Biomarker of familial hyperlipidemia and hepatocellular carcinoma. Orthologous to human SHC1 (SHC adaptor protein 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in rat Shc1 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
