Zdhhc17 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables palmitoyltransferase activity and signaling receptor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including peptidyl-L-cysteine S-palmitoylation; regulation of modification of synapse structure, modulating synaptic transmission; and regulation of signal transduction. Located in Golgi apparatus. Is active in glutamatergic synapse; perforant pathway to dendrate granule cell synapse; and postsynaptic Golgi apparatus. Is expressed in several structures, including early conceptus; heart; and oocyte. Used to study Huntington's disease. Orthologous to human ZDHHC17 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 17). Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Zdhhc17 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
