Igf2bp2 Gene Summary [Rat]

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of mRNA binding proteins that have been shown to bind to several different mRNAs in mammalian cells, including insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA. Generation of two different isoforms by alternative translation initiation at an internal start codon, has been described for this gene (PMID:22427968). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in rat Igf2bp2 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
