Ccl5 Gene Summary [Mouse]

Enables CCR1 chemokine receptor binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of macrophage apoptotic process and positive regulation of monocyte chemotaxis. Acts upstream of or within inflammatory response; positive regulation of epithelial cell proliferation; and response to tumor necrosis factor. Located in cytoplasm and extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system; liver; and retina. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including hepatitis B; hepatitis C; liver disease (multiple); pulmonary tuberculosis; and severe acute respiratory syndrome. Orthologous to human CCL5 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 5). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in mouse Ccl5 often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
