Cdkn1b Gene Summary [Rat]

Enables Hsp70 protein binding activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of vascular associated smooth muscle cell proliferation; regulation of cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activity; and response to genistein. Part of protein-containing complex. Used to study cataract; endocrine organ benign neoplasm (multiple); infertility; multiple endocrine neoplasia; and myocardial infarction. Biomarker of several diseases, including acute kidney failure; glomerulonephritis (multiple); obesity; pulmonary hypertension; and sciatic neuropathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in acute myeloid leukemia; breast cancer; multiple endocrine neoplasia type 4; and myelodysplastic syndrome. Orthologous to human CDKN1B (cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1B). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]

Protein Domains

A protein domain is a distinct structural or functional region within a protein that can evolve, function, and exist independently of the rest of the protein chain. These domains in rat Cdkn1b often fold into stable, three-dimensional structures and are associated with specific biological functions, such as binding to DNA, other proteins, or small molecules.
